Sofiya Nzau is set to take to the global stage at Tomorrowland 2025, becoming the first Kenyan artist ever to perform at one of the world’s most iconic electronic music festivals.
From Kikuyu lyrics to global EDM beats, Sofiya’s voice has broken borders.
Sofiya first gained global recognition with her collaboration on the viral track “Mwaki” alongside Brazilian DJ Zerb.
What started as a Kikuyu vocal sample turned into a cross-continental EDM anthem. The song spread like wildfire across TikTok and Instagram reels, with her hypnotic voice becoming the emotional anchor of the track.
As of July 2025, “Mwaki” has amassed over 300 million streams on Spotify, Platinum status in several international markets,Millions of TikTok uses, including trends from Brazil, Germany, and Kenya itself.
It marked the first time many global listeners heard a Kenyan language in their headphones — and connected with it emotionally.
Nzau’s inclusion in the Tomorrowland 2025 lineup was announced quietly but marked loudly by the impact it left. Her set, scheduled for Sunday, July 27, is part of a prime-time slot alongside EDM heavyweight Steve Aoki on one of the main stages.

She has monthly listeners of 10.9 million (and rising) total Spotify Streams are over 560 million, while top Streaming Countries are Brazil, Germany, the Netherlands, Kenya, South Africa, and the UK.
In Kenya, she’s now frequently featured on both Spotify’s “Nairobi Nights” and “African Heat” .
Sofiya’s European debut isn’t just a one-off. It’s a full-scale summer tour that has her performing across multiple major cities. Having made earlier stops in Belgium, she still has upcoming shows.

She’s also teased an upcoming collaboration with Tyla, and a remix of “Mwaki” featuring surprise vocals from a West African icon — many fans are speculating it could be either Ayra Starr or Tems.
