Among them is Naythan Din-Kariuki, a Kenyan talent analyst whose work is helping shape recruitment decisions at the highest level of European football.
Currently serving as Lead Data Scout at Aston Villa, Kariuki represents a growing shift in modern football, where data, analytics, and strategy are becoming just as important as what happens on the pitch.
Kariuki’s journey into elite football is anything but conventional.
He began his career in Kenya in 2016 as a goalkeeper coach at Kariobangi Sharks, a role that grounded him in the practical side of the sport.
But even then, his interest extended beyond training sessions. He was drawn to the analytical side of football, studying performance, patterns, and player development.

In 2023, he moved to Danish club AC Horsens as a senior scout, further strengthening his credentials in European football. Just a year later, he joined Aston Villa, one of the most competitive environments in world football.
By 2025, he had risen to the position of Lead Data Scout, a role that places him at the heart of the club’s recruitment strategy.
Kariuki’s work may not be visible on match day, but its impact is significant.

Back home, he was listed among Business Daily’s Top 40 Under 40, further cementing his reputation as one of Kenya’s rising figures in global sports.
Beyond his role in Europe, Kariuki has remained connected to the region.
He co-founded EA Eye, a platform focused on identifying and promoting football talent from East Africa.
The initiative aims to bridge the gap between local players and international opportunities using data and scouting networks to spotlight emerging stars.
Despite his achievements, Kariuki remains largely out of the public spotlight.
