BOMET, Kenya – A 14-year-old boy is nursing serious injuries after he was allegedly assaulted by a Catholic priest at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Mugango Parish in Bomet County.
The boy, identified as Brian, was reportedly beaten with a club on the head and hands on Tuesday, under circumstances that remain unclear.
According to his father, Stephen Rono, the assault left the teenager with visible injuries and blood clots in his eyes.
“I found him on a boda boda, he had been beaten up by the father (priest) for a ‘mistake’. If he was wrong, why beat him with a club?” Rono told reporters, demanding accountability from the church and authorities.

The minor was rushed to Chelimo Hospital, where medical officers confirmed he had sustained multiple soft tissue injuries.
“He was in a bad state, with injuries on the head and hands. His eyes were red, with visible clots. He was given first aid and is now recovering,” said Gilbert Rono, a clinician at the facility.
The boy’s family has since recorded a statement with authorities in Bomet as they seek justice.
The priest accused of the assault has not yet been publicly identified, and church officials are yet to issue a statement on the incident.
