Kenya’s road transport industry is mourning the passing of Azym Dossa, the founding director and former Managing Director of Easy Coach, whose leadership and vision helped build one of the country’s most recognised intercity bus services.
Dossa’s death, described by the company as a “great loss,” comes shortly after he retired from active management, bringing an end to a career that transformed long-distance travel in Kenya and elevated service standards in the passenger transport sector.
A long-serving figure in Kenya’s transport industry, Azym Dossa began his journey with experience as Chief Financial Officer at Akamba Bus before going on to establish Easy Coach in 2003.
The company started with just seven buses operating on a single route between Nairobi and Kisumu, but under Dossa’s leadership, it expanded into one of Kenya’s largest bus operators, serving more than 35 destinations across the country and region.
Easy Coach became known for its structured schedules, customer-focused service, and emphasis on safety — features that helped distinguish it from much of the competition and build a strong reputation within the transport sector.

In an official statement, Easy Coach described Dossa as a “visionary leader whose dedication and strategic direction shaped Easy Coach from its earliest days” and said his legacy will always be part of the company’s identity.
Industry peers and business leaders also paid tribute to his contributions. Many recognised Dossa as a pioneer in modernising passenger transport in Kenya, with a focus on reliability and customer comfort.
The Federation of Public Transport Sector (FPTS) was among those expressing condolences, describing Dossa as a leader who elevated professionalism and service standards in the transport industry.
Staff, former colleagues and members of the public also took to social media to express sorrow over his passing, remembering him as a mentor and a key figure in shaping modern long-distance travel.
Dossa stepped down from active leadership in early 2025 due to health concerns and advancing age, handing over the company’s day-to-day management to a new leadership team.
In parting, he pledged to remain connected with Easy Coach in an advisory role, even as he prioritised his health and family after more than two decades at the helm.
Throughout his career, Dossa guided Easy Coach through periods of growth and challenge, including the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted the transport industry globally.
He emphasised strategic planning and care for employees during difficult economic periods, helping the company endure one of its most challenging chapters.
A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, 28 February 2026, at the Aga Khan Cultural and Religious Centre in Parklands, Nairobi, beginning at 9:15 a.m., followed by burial at the Ismaili Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife Dilshad Dossa, sons Tariq and Khaled Dossa, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren, who will lead the family in paying tribute to his life and legacy.
Over more than two decades, Dossa helped build Easy Coach into one of East Africa’s most recognisable and respected bus brands, a company credited with introducing structured operations, improved passenger experience, and higher safety standards at a time when such features were less common in the sector.
