Kikuyu, Kenya — Kenyans are demanding justice after CCTV footage captured police officers from Nderi Police Station allegedly harassing and assaulting two young men caught playing a game of pool in Kikuyu Constituency on the night of January 23.
The footage shows the officers handcuffing the men and confiscating pool sticks and balls.
In a disturbing scene, one officer is seen slapping one of the youths, while another allegedly strikes the second young man with a pool stick.
A similar incident was reported in Nandi Hills, prompting public concern over police conduct.
The videos have since circulated widely on social media, drawing calls from Kenyans for accountability and immediate action against the officers involved.
DEAR PRESIDENT WILLIAM SAMOEI RUTO,These are officers from Nderi Police Post in Kikuyu. They have now decided that young people should not even play pool. What exactly is wrong with pool? Why not just come out clearly and announce that playing pool is banned for youth in Kenya?
Local residents condemned the harassment, saying it highlights a growing trend of excessive force by police against ordinary citizens. Many have urged the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to investigate the matter and ensure that justice is served.
As of now, Nderi Police Station has not issued an official statement regarding the incidents.
This is the second incident in days after a leaked CCTV footage showed police assaulting youth in Nandi Hills.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja issued a statement saying the Internal Affairs Unit had launched investigations.
There has been a rise in cases of police brutality in the country.
