Chege Kirundi Elected National Chairman of KTDA Holdings

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) has elected Mr. Chege Kirundi as its new National Chairman, marking a pivotal leadership transition within the agency.

Mr. Kirundi succeeds Mr. Enos Njeru, while Eric Chepkwony will continue serving as Vice Chairman.

Representing Zone Three in Murang’a County, Mr. Kirundi has been at the forefront of championing tea reforms in Kenya, playing a significant role in the formulation and enactment of the 2020 Tea Act.

His leadership is expected to steer KTDA through a period of critical changes in the tea sector.

Mr. Kirundi is a seasoned legal professional with an impressive academic and professional background.

He holds an LLB degree from the University of Nairobi and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.

As an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, he is also a Certified Public Secretary, a Commissioner for Oaths, a Notary Public, and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIP). Additionally, he is a qualified professional mediator.

Beyond his legal expertise, Mr. Kirundi’s career includes service as a State Counsel in the Attorney General’s Chambers.

Currently, he runs his private practice at Kirundi & Company Advocates and is an active member of the Law Society of Kenya.

He also serves as Chairman of Kiru Tea Factory Company PLC, further deepening his ties to Kenya’s tea industry.

Mr. Kirundi’s appointment comes at a time when the KTDA is navigating both challenges and opportunities in the global tea market.

His leadership is anticipated to build on ongoing reforms aimed at empowering smallholder tea farmers and ensuring the sector’s sustainability.

The KTDA is a key player in Kenya’s agricultural sector, managing tea production for over 600,000 small-scale farmers.

The agency has been at the center of reforms targeting transparency, accountability, and improved farmer earnings.

With Mr. Kirundi’s extensive experience in both law and the tea sector, stakeholders are optimistic about his capacity to drive positive change.

His role in implementing the 2020 Tea Act underscores his commitment to creating a fair and competitive environment for Kenya’s tea farmers.
