NAIROBI, Kenya – Juja MP George Koimburi has been summoned to appear in court to face criminal charges over an alleged conspiracy to fraudulently acquire a parcel of land valued at Ksh.10 million.
Koimburi is set to be charged alongside two co-accused—Shelmith Karungri Maina and Gathii Irungu—over claims they colluded to fraudulently transfer ownership of a prime property located in Juja.
According to court documents, the trio is accused of conspiring to defraud one Julius Gitonga Githinji of land registered as RUIRU EAST/JUJA EAST BLOCK 2/36, measuring approximately 1.310 hectares.
The alleged conspiracy is said to have occurred on or before March 26, 2020, at an undisclosed location within Kenya.
In addition to conspiracy to defraud, Koimburi and Shelmith face a separate charge of obtaining land registration by false pretences.
The prosecution alleges that the two unlawfully secured registration of the parcel at the Thika District Land Registry in Kiambu County, with the intention of defrauding the rightful owner.
The accused have also been charged with uttering false documents in relation to the transaction.
The case adds to a string of high-profile legal troubles involving public officials, amid growing calls for accountability in land management and registry processes.
