DAP-K Blames ODM For Attack on MP Peter Salasya

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- The Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) has called for the immediate arrest of individuals allegedly orchestrated by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and led by ODM-affiliated Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Korogocho and Umoja 1.

These individuals are accused of attacking Mumias East MP Peter Salasya during the Sunday football match event at Nyayo Stadium.

In a statement, the Eugene Wamalwa-led DAP-K emphasized the urgency of apprehending the perpetrators, warning that failure to act would prompt the party to pursue necessary political measures.

The party’s leadership condemned the assault, highlighting concerns over escalating political intolerance and violence.

MP Salasya has been at the center of several confrontations in recent months.

In January 2024, he was arrested for allegedly assaulting Malaha Ward MCA Peter Walunya during a funeral in Kakamega County.

Salasya faced charges of assault causing actual bodily harm and creating a disturbance. His security detail was also disarmed pending ballistic analysis.

He was released on a cash bail of Sh50,000 and was scheduled to appear before the Mumias Senior Principal Magistrate’s court to answer to the charges.

In November 2023, Salasya was attacked and ejected from a church function by rowdy youths purportedly supporting Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa.

The incident occurred during a Sunday service at Bukaya Catholic Church, where Salasya criticized the county government’s efforts to revive the Mumias Sugar Company.

The confrontation escalated, leading to his bodyguards firing shots in the air to restore order.

Furthermore, in December 2023, Salasya’s vehicle was damaged during a violent confrontation.

The MP alleged that a political rival had deployed rowdy youths to block him from attending a burial, resulting in the destruction of his vehicle’s back window.

He condemned the misuse of youths for political purposes and expressed concern over the potential escalation of violence.
