NAIROBI, Kenya – The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed reports circulating online that Collins Jumaisi, the prime suspect in the gruesome Kware murders, has been re-arrested.
In a statement on Wednesday, the DCI described the claims as false and clarified that Jumaisi remains at large.
“We are aware of reports suggesting that the suspect has been apprehended. These claims are inaccurate. The suspect is still on the run, and an active manhunt remains underway,” the statement read in part.
CLARIFICATION ON ALLEGED RE-ARREST OF COLLINS JUMAISI KHALUSHAOur attention has been drawn to information circulating online regarding the re-arrest of Collins Jumaisi, the prime suspect in the grisly Kware murders, who escaped from Gigiri Police Station in August 2024.We
Jumaisi is accused of masterminding one of Kenya’s most horrifying murder sprees, in which 42 women — including his wife — were killed and their bodies dumped at the Kware dumpsite in Nairobi’s Mukuru kwa Njenga area.
He was initially arrested on June 15, 2024, but escaped from Gigiri Police Station on August 20, along with 12 other detainees. Police later placed a bounty on his head as a nationwide manhunt began.
The DCI’s clarification comes weeks after renewed public attention to the case following a Citizen TV exposé aired on September 28, 2025, which reignited outrage over the handling of the investigation.
During his previous court appearances, Jumaisi claimed he had been coerced into confessing to the killings, alleging he was being used as a scapegoat for a “powerful group.” His claims raised doubts about the depth and direction of the probe.
The DCI, long silent on the case, revived the search for the suspect shortly after the exposé — a coincidence that has fueled public speculation over renewed interest in the investigation.
Authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any information that could lead to Jumaisi’s arrest.
