DCI Mohamed Amin Declares Full-Scale War on Drugs and Substance Abuse Across Kenya

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 6 — The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mohamed Amin, has vowed to intensify the fight against drug and substance abuse, calling for stronger community-police partnerships and warning that law enforcement officers involved in illicit networks will face strict accountability.

Speaking at the conclusion of a security assessment tour in Marsabit County, Mr. Amin described substance abuse as a grave threat to national development and security, particularly endangering Kenya’s youth.

His remarks echoed President William Ruto’s New Year’s Eve declaration, which labeled drug and substance abuse a national emergency.

“We must all take collective action to protect our communities from the devastating effects of alcohol and drugs. This is a threat to our nation’s future,” Amin said.

Strengthening Police Operations and Anti-Narcotics Units

During his tour, the DCI Director inspected several police stations, assessed operational readiness, and engaged directly with officers and local residents to foster collaboration and boost morale.

He praised officers for their dedication but stressed that community support is vital in identifying and dismantling drug networks.

Amin directed police commanders across the country to take decisive action against sellers, traffickers, and distributors of illicit substances, highlighting the government’s plan to enhance the DCI Anti-Narcotics Unit with advanced tools, intelligence, and forensic capabilities.

“The fight against drugs is not just for the police alone. Communities must cooperate, and any officer or public official found enabling these networks will face full consequences,” he warned.

No One is Above the Law

The DCI’s renewed resolve signals a comprehensive and uncompromising approach to eradicating drugs in Kenya.

By emphasizing accountability for both traffickers and complicit officials, Amin underlined the government’s determination to protect the youth and safeguard the nation’s future.

This announcement comes amid growing concerns over drug-related crime and substance abuse hotspots across Kenya, as security agencies step up efforts to curb the proliferation of narcotics.
