DCI Recovers Stolen Isuzu Lorries in Murang’a, Arrests Five Suspects

MURANG’A, Kenya — Detectives from the Operation Support Unit (OSU) have successfully recovered two stolen Isuzu lorries in a major breakthrough following a daring theft in Gatanga, Murang’a County.

The vehicles — an Isuzu FVZ (registration KDQ 845T) and an Isuzu FRR (registration KDL 078W) — were stolen on August 16, 2025, in a brazen daylight heist that left the local community shocked.

Following the theft, detectives launched a meticulous investigation, gathering intelligence that led to the arrest of five suspects: Peter Njuguna Gitau, Mark Kinyua, Erick Chege, David Kigo, and Joseph Ndung’u Waweru, believed to be the masterminds behind the lorry heist.

Recovery in Mombasa

Upon interrogation, the suspects revealed the location of the stolen vehicles in Makupa, Mombasa County. Both lorries had been fitted with counterfeit number plates to evade detection the Isuzu FVZ bore KDV 449C, while the Isuzu FRR carried KCA 505D.

The lorries have now been safely returned to the custody of the DCI Gatanga, with plans underway to return them to their rightful owners, restoring both property and confidence in law enforcement.

Suspects in Custody

The five suspects remain in custody and are undergoing processing pending arraignment. Authorities have praised the coordination between investigative teams and intelligence officers, emphasizing the importance of community tips and detailed investigation in solving high-value thefts.

“This recovery demonstrates that crime does not pay and that our detectives will leave no stone unturned in ensuring stolen property is returned and offenders face justice,” said a DCI spokesperson.

The operation comes amid growing concerns over vehicle theft in Murang’a County, signaling a firm commitment by law enforcement to safeguard residents’ property and maintain law and order.
