NAIROBI, Kenya — Police have shot and killed a 19‑year‑old man in Embakasi, Nairobi, Sunday morning, sparking protests and outrage.
The victim, identified as Shukri Adan, was shot at around 5:30am as he was on his way to morning prayers, according to eyewitnesses who spoke to local rights activists.
The incident reportedly began after a road accident involving a matatu and the car in which Shukri and two others were travelling.
A misunderstanding followed the collision, prompting police to intervene.
Eyewitnesses say officers forced Shukri and the other passengers to lie on the ground, and as tensions escalated, police opened fire, killing Shukri at the scene.
