NAIROBI, Kenya — The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) has dismissed a fake letter circulating on social media claiming that party leader Eugene Wamalwa had been expelled from the party in an alleged emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
In a statement on Wednesday, the party said no such meeting had been convened and no decision had been made to remove Wamalwa, terming the viral document “a deliberate and malicious fabrication” intended to mislead the public and destabilise the party.
The falsified letter alleged that DAP-K had appointed Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya as the new party leader and Ayub Savula as deputy party leader. It also bore a forged signature naming Seth Panyako as acting secretary-general — claims DAP-K flatly rejected.
“The leadership structure of DAP-K remains intact. Any official communication is only issued through verified party channels,” the party noted, urging members to disregard the document and remain focused on upcoming political activities.
Governor Natembeya also distanced himself from the letter, accusing unnamed pro-government actors of orchestrating the hoax to interfere with the party’s campaigns ahead of a crucial parliamentary contest in Malava.
“This letter is being circulated by UDA members who know we are on the verge of winning the Malava seat. It is a calculated attempt to create confusion and distract our people. Ignore it in its entirety,” Natembeya said.
He added that the party remained united behind its candidate, insisting that “Malava is a one-people constituency; it is a win for Seth Panyako.”
The party condemned the circulation of forged documents, describing the trend as an emerging political tactic meant to sow discord within opposition formations as the 2027 political landscape begins to take shape.
DAP-K has urged its supporters to remain vigilant against misinformation as political competition intensifies, insisting that Eugene Wamalwa continues to serve as its bona fide party leader.
