Forensic Hunt Begins After MP Killed in Brazen Nairobi Shooting

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Detectives say they have secured critical evidence from the scene where a Member of Parliament was shot dead by unknown assailants on Thursday night, despite visiting the area more than 12 hours after the incident.

The legislator was ambushed and fatally shot at the busy City Mortuary roundabout along Ngong Road in Nairobi.

In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that homicide detectives, supported by forensic experts from the National Forensic Laboratory, meticulously combed the crime scene and gathered vital clues.

“The team meticulously examined the crime scene and collected evidence essential to the investigation process,” the DCI said.

The investigation is being led by the DCI’s Homicide Bureau, which has already reconstructed the lawmaker’s movements from Parliament to the scene of the shooting. Detectives believe the attackers had trailed him from the precincts of Parliament before executing the attack.

Crucial CCTV footage along the route his vehicle followed has been retrieved for analysis, with hopes that it may help identify the suspects.

“While the motive for this heinous act remains under investigation, preliminary findings suggest that this was a targeted and premeditated attack,” the DCI added.

Detectives say they are pursuing all angles to uncover the full circumstances behind the brazen killing.
