NAIROBI, Kenya- Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his criticism of President William Ruto, vowing to sustain a relentless campaign against the government as political tensions continue to rise ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in Githunguri Constituency, where he held a private meeting with Kikuyu elders in Kiambu County, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader said he would not be silenced despite mounting criticism from the ruling side.
Gachagua framed his offensive as a response to what he termed as failures within the current administration, accusing it of presiding over widespread corruption and weak governance structures.
“We remain committed to engaging and informing the public about the ongoing State Capture, rampant corruption, and self-serving interests driven by this unapologetic regime,” the DCP boss said.
‘We will not keep quiet’
The former deputy president dismissed recent remarks by President Ruto targeting opposition leaders, arguing that the sharp rhetoric from the Head of State was a direct reaction to increased scrutiny.
According to Gachagua, the opposition’s role is to hold the government accountable, particularly on issues affecting ordinary Kenyans.
He singled out the health sector, alleging deep-rooted corruption and mismanagement that he claimed continues to undermine service delivery across the country.
We remain committed to engaging and informing the public about the ongoing State Capture, rampant corruption, and self-serving interests driven by this unapologetic regime. We will not grow weary in speaking the truth as we strategize to reclaim our country from these ruthless
Political temperature rising
Gachagua’s latest remarks come amid escalating political tensions, with both sides trading accusations as the country inches closer to the next election cycle.
Analysts say the former deputy president is positioning himself as a central opposition figure, leveraging grassroots engagements and regional networks to rebuild political influence.
His meeting with elders in Kiambu is seen as part of a broader strategy to consolidate support in the Mt Kenya region—long considered a critical voting bloc in national politics.
Ruto’s pushback
President Ruto has in recent days hit back at critics, accusing some opposition leaders of engaging in premature campaigns and divisive politics.
While the presidency maintains that its focus remains on development and economic recovery, insiders say the administration is increasingly wary of growing opposition momentum, particularly among regions that were once strongholds of the ruling coalition.
