NYERI, Kenya — Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots mobilisation and continuous engagement with party members, saying this remains the core operating principle of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) as preparations for the 2027 General Election gather pace.
In a statement on Monday, Gachagua said he spent the day at his Wamunyoro home engaging aspirants seeking various elective positions in Nyeri County, describing the meeting as part of DCP’s strategy to build a structured, people-driven political movement.
“We have agreed on enhanced membership recruitment to ensure that party members participate in free and fair party primaries,” Gachagua said.
He noted that the aspirants and party leadership committed to aggressively popularising DCP across Nyeri County, with the aim of winning all elective seats in the 2027 polls — including Governor, Senator, Woman Representative, six Members of the National Assembly and 30 Members of the County Assembly.
The former deputy president also announced that the meeting agreed on new dates for public rallies in Othaya and Kieni, which were aborted a day earlier after police allegedly damaged party vehicles and disabled sound systems.
Gachagua said the disruption would not derail the party’s mobilisation efforts, insisting that DCP remains firmly rooted among the people of Nyeri.
“Our party remains the party of choice in Nyeri County and indeed across the country,” he said.
The renewed push in Nyeri comes as Gachagua intensifies efforts to position DCP as a national political force, with a strong emphasis on grassroots participation, internal democracy and direct engagement with party members.
