Nairobi, Kenya- Gachagua’s explosive interview with content creator Oga Obinna has taken YouTube by storm, crossing more than half a million views within just eight hours of going live.
The Friday night sit-down featured the former Deputy President and current DCP Party Leader in one of his most candid media appearances yet, dropping headline-grabbing revelations about his fallout with President William Ruto.
Among the most sensational claims, Gachagua alleged that Ruto once visited his home crying and begging for political support, appealing to their brotherhood and shared faith. He said his decision to support Ruto in 2022 was driven by sympathy rather than any written agreement.
“I had no document. The guy would come here and cry real tears, saying ‘My brother, please help me.’ So I helped him,” Gachagua told Obinna, triggering widespread debate online.
The interview also saw Gachagua retract his infamous “empty coffers” statement made during the Kenya Kwanza government’s early days. While he admitted the economy was under strain, he clarified that there was enough money to keep the country afloat.
“There was not a surplus, but there was enough to get the country going,” he said, in a clear shift from his earlier remarks in 2022 when he claimed they had found “not even a rat” in the Treasury.
He went on to accuse President Ruto of micromanaging state finances, saying he had no authority to direct government funds during his time in office. According to Gachagua, Ruto’s tight control left him sidelined in key economic decisions.
“I did not have power to direct this money because he micromanaged everything,” he said.
The video trended across platforms and sparked heated discussions on social media.
