NAIROBI, Kenya – The High Court has extended interim injunction orders freezing assets worth Sh813 million in a corruption-related civil suit involving Kiambu Governor Paul Kimani Wamatangi and other respondents.
The orders were extended on Wednesday after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) successfully applied for their continuation pending the hearing and determination of the recovery suit.
Appearing before Justice Hedwig Okwany of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Division, the EACC urged the court to maintain restrictions barring the defendants from selling, transferring, or otherwise dealing with the contested assets, which the commission alleges are proceeds of corruption.
Justice Okwany allowed the application and extended the injunction orders until March 17, 2026, effectively preserving the assets while the case proceeds.
During the session, the court directed all parties to exchange written submissions on the injunction application, granting each side 14 days to file and serve their respective documents.
The court also granted the parties liberty to respond to a separate application by the first defendant seeking to strike out the suit, paving the way for further legal arguments before the matter is substantively heard.
The case is scheduled for mention on March 17, 2026, before Justice Musyoki for further directions. The court further ordered that the extracted injunction orders be formally served on all parties.
The EACC has sued Governor Wamatangi and others, arguing that the Sh813 million in question constitutes proceeds of corruption and should be forfeited to the State if the suit succeeds.
