NAIROBI, Kenya- Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna says he is ready to relinquish his position as Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) if asked to do so.
In a revealing interview on Citizen TV, Sifuna said his loyalty to the party and its leadership remains intact, and he would not hesitate to step aside if his service is no longer deemed useful.
“If I were asked to step aside as SG of ODM, I would. This position is not mine. I would relinquish it without blinking,” he said.
Sifuna said he accepted the role in 2018 after being asked by the party leadership if he could handle the responsibility—and he would walk away just as willingly.
Edwin Sifuna: If I were asked to step aside as SG of ODM, I would. Even when I became SG of ODM, I was asked if we gave this position would you be able to do it and I would say yes. If that same person calls me today and says Sifuna, I have lost confidence in your ability to do
His comments come at a time of heightened internal realignments and uncertainty over ODM’s future direction following Raila Odinga’s working arrangement with President William Ruto under the broad-based government.
Despite speculation around possible leadership transitions within the party, Sifuna said his priority remains serving ODM faithfully and preparing for the 2027 elections.
He added that should ODM ever endorse President Ruto for re-election, that would be a red line he could not cross.
“If a decision is taken to formally support William Ruto for 2027, that is something I cannot personally abide. I am holding out that there is still time for us to correct course.”

Odinga recently said he will support Ruto until 2027, after which the party shall chart a way forward.
Ruto is seeking a second and final term as President amidst serious tests over failed promises, poor governance, extra-judicial killings, and a crippled econom,y according to the opposition leaders.
