MBEERE NORTH, Kenya – The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has said it is fully prepared to deliver a smooth and credible by-election in Mbeere North, with top officials set to supervise the poll.
Returning Officer John Kinyua on Monday said all systems were in place ahead of the February 26, 2025 vote, adding that the Commission had taken steps to guarantee an efficient, transparent and secure process.
“Our commitment is clear — to deliver a free, fair and credible election. We have put in place the necessary measures to ensure everything runs seamlessly,” Kinyua told journalists at the IEBC offices in Siakago.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon and CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan are expected in Mbeere North to oversee final preparations and will meet the Embu County Security Committee on Wednesday to review security arrangements.
Kinyua said security had been prioritised, with two police officers deployed to each of the 134 polling stations serving the constituency’s 55,124 registered voters.
He also cautioned voters against wearing clothing branded with aspirants’ names or images on polling day, warning that such conduct amounts to campaigning and could lead to disqualification of the candidates involved.
Evurore Ward will be the biggest voting bloc with 26,535 voters spread across 68 polling stations.
Nthawa follows with 18,836 voters in 38 stations, while Muminji has 9,853 voters in 28 stations. IEBC will use the 2022 voter register for the by-election.
