NAIROBI, Kenya– Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja on Wednesday conducted a comprehensive road safety assessment on major highways leading to and from Nairobi, ahead of the festive season.
The exercise covered the Nairobi-Nakuru, Nairobi-Nanyuki, and Nairobi-Mombasa highways, key routes that experience increased traffic volumes during the holidays.
During the assessment, IG Kanja engaged with members of the public, boda boda riders, public service and private transport operators, and passengers to listen to concerns and promote responsible road use.
He emphasised strict compliance with traffic laws, responsible driving, and mutual respect among all road users.

The IG urged passengers to report reckless driving, speeding, or suspicious activities using emergency hotlines 999, 911, or 112, or via the #FichuaKwaDCI toll-free line 0800 722 203 and WhatsApp line 0709 570 000.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility. The National Police Service remains committed to safeguarding lives and property and will continue to enhance visibility and enforcement on all major roads throughout the festive season,” IG Kanja said.

Also present during the exercise were NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga; Regional Police Commander, Central Region, Jaspher Ombati; Commandant of the Traffic Police Unit, Fredrick Ochieng’; Machakos County Police Commander, Monicah Kimani; Kiambu County Police Commander, Doris Mugambi; and Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Central, Elizabeth Vivi, among others.
The National Police Service urged all road users to prioritise safety, remain vigilant, and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure a safe festive season.
