Inside Details Of Multi Billion Dollars Health Deal Between Kenya and US

Date:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a landmark move set to transform Kenya’s healthcare landscape, the Government of the United States has committed $1.6 billion over the next five years to support the country’s health sector.

The funding was formalized through the signing of the Kenya–US Health Cooperation Framework, witnessed by President William Ruto in Washington, D.C.

The agreement, signed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, aims to strengthen Kenya’s drive towards universal health coverage.

Key priorities include the provision of modern medical equipment, efficient delivery of essential health commodities, upscaling of the health workforce, and the expansion of health insurance to cover all Kenyans.

Unlike previous aid programs, this framework channels resources directly through government institutions, eliminating third-party intermediaries.

This approach is intended to ensure maximum accountability and that support reaches intended beneficiaries efficiently.

President Ruto expressed gratitude to the US government for choosing Kenya as the first country to sign this historic framework, describing it as a vote of confidence in the strength and reform momentum of Kenya’s healthcare system.

The deal builds on more than 25 years of health cooperation between the two countries, during which the US has invested over $7 billion in Kenya’s health sector.

Officials say the new framework will further solidify this enduring partnership while addressing critical healthcare gaps across the country.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi described the agreement as “transformative,” emphasizing that it positions Kenya to provide better healthcare access, improve service delivery, and protect the wellbeing of every citizen.

The framework represents a strategic milestone in Kenya’s journey toward sustainable healthcare development and is expected to have a lasting impact on hospitals, clinics, and communities nationwide.
