Isaac Mwaura Honoured in Bangkok with UN Award for Youth Mentorship and Social Justice

Date:

Nairobi, Kenya- Kenya’s Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has been recognised on the global stage, receiving a prestigious award from the United Nations Centre in Bangkok for his contributions to social justice, youth mentorship, and climate-related initiatives.

The accolade, presented over the weekend, celebrates individuals advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those working to amplify young voices and address emerging global challenges.

Recognition Beyond Borders

Mwaura, who was appointed government spokesperson in October 2023, was honoured for his efforts in championing youth-led projects, mentoring young leaders, and advocating for equitable opportunities.

The award also acknowledges his focus on climate solutions and ensuring youth representation in decision-making processes.

In a statement following the award, Mwaura expressed deep gratitude:

“Glad to finally receive this prestigious award on social justice and youth mentorship from the United Nations Centre in Bangkok, Thailand. So very honoured for this great recognition. Glory be to God. I remain committed to the cause,” he said.

He added that recognition often comes long after the work has been done quietly: “Sometimes, the quietest battles shape the loudest legacies fought away from the spotlight, unseen by many, until the day the world pauses to recognise them.”

From Personal Struggles to Public Mission

Mwaura’s journey has been marked by resilience. Having served as a nominated MP and senator representing persons with disabilities, he turned his personal struggles into a broader mission — amplifying marginalised voices in Kenya’s political space.

That advocacy has now evolved into a government-wide platform where, as the nation’s chief communicator, he continues to blend public service with mentorship initiatives.

Part of a Growing Kenyan Legacy

Mwaura now joins the ranks of other Kenyans who have received the same recognition. Among them is Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, former CEO of the Kenya Film Classification Board, who was honoured in 2023 during the UN World Humanitarian Day in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Mutua was recognised for promoting ethical leadership and youth empowerment, inspiring many with his commitment to integrity-driven service.
