NAIROBI, Kenya — Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party has announced a fresh round of leadership changes, appointing former Narok North MP Richard Ole Kenta as its new Secretary General as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 General Election.
In a statement issued on Thursday, January 22, Jubilee said the changes were approved by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) during a meeting held earlier in the day.
Ole Kenta replaces Jeremiah Kioni, who has been named the party’s Deputy Leader, joining former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i in the party’s top leadership ranks.
Jubilee confirmed that Kioni will now work alongside Matiang’i, who was appointed Deputy Party Leader in October 2025 after the party endorsed him as its presidential candidate for the 2027 race.
“The party calls upon all members, supporters, partners, and Kenyans of goodwill to accord Hon Richard Ole Kenta full cooperation and support as he undertakes this important and demanding responsibility,” the party said in the statement.

Matiang’i, who confirmed the NEC’s decision, described Ole Kenta as a seasoned political figure whose experience will be critical in strengthening Jubilee’s organisational structures.
“The NEC decided this morning to approve the proposal and appoint Ole Kenta as our new Secretary General. He is a solid and respected political player, and we are very grateful for the work that he has done,” Matiang’i said.

The changes come barely three months after Jubilee formally endorsed Matiang’i as its flagbearer for the 2027 presidential election.
“We have received and formally accepted Dr Fred Matiang’i’s application for his presidential bid, and the NEC has agreed that he carries our flag,” Kioni said in October 2025.
“We have appointed Dr Fred Matiang’i as our Deputy Party Leader going forward,” he added.
