NAIROBI, Kenya — National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohammed has addressed internal Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) dynamics, highlighting the role of Winnie Odinga, daughter of the late opposition leader Raila Odinga, as the party navigates unity and preparations for the 2027 elections.
“There’s nothing Winnie Odinga has asked me to support,” Junet said, noting that differing regional focuses among party leaders should not be misconstrued as internal conflict.
“Oburu can be in Kakamega, Winnie in Kibera, and I in Migori, but that doesn’t mean we are fighting,” he said.
MP Junet Mohammed: There’s nothing Winnie Odinga has asked me to support. Oburu can be in Kakamega, Winnie in Kibera, and I in Migori, but that doesn’t mean we are fighting. It’s just different opinions, but very soon we will speak with one voice #JKLive
He was reacting to a well-attended rally hosted by Winnie in Kibra, which was seen as a protest event.
Winnie, who currently serves as a Member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), has been active in ODM politics and was a key figure in her father’s campaigns.
Junet also confirmed that ODM is engaging in early negotiations with other parties, including UDA, as part of its strategy to form a broad‑based government ahead of 2027.
