TRANS NZOIA, Kenya — ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo on Saturday joined senior government officials, local leaders, and residents of Trans Nzoia County in paying their last respects to the late Mzee Michael Kigen Komen, father of ICT Principal Secretary John Tanui.
Speaking during the burial ceremony, Kabogo described Mzee Komen as a man who lived an exemplary life defined by humility, hard work, peace, and selfless service to his community, values he said had left behind a legacy worthy of emulation.
“Mzee Komen lived a life marked by humility, hard work, and service to others. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life well lived,” Kabogo said.
The Cabinet Secretary conveyed a message of condolence from President William Ruto, extending the Head of State’s sympathies to PS Tanui, the Komen family, relatives, and friends during what he described as a moment of deep loss.
“I conveyed H.E. the President’s message of condolence and my heartfelt sympathies to the family. May God grant you strength, comfort, and peace,” Kabogo said.
Kabogo said the government stood in solidarity with the bereaved family as they came to terms with the loss.
The ceremony drew a large gathering of national and county leaders, underscoring the late Mzee Komen’s standing within the community and his family’s prominence in public service.
Among those present were Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, Gender CS Hanna Cheptumo, Broadcasting Principal Secretary Stephen Isaboke among others.

Leaders paid tribute to Mzee Komen’s role in nurturing values of peace and diligence, noting that his legacy would continue to be reflected through his family and the lives he touched.
