NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenya Railways has issued a warning to the public over a fake job advertisement circulating on social media, cautioning job seekers against falling prey to fraudsters posing as the state corporation.
In a public alert, the rail operator said the advert did not originate from Kenya Railways and urged Kenyans to verify all recruitment notices through its official platforms.
“We wish to alert members of the public about a fake job advertisement doing rounds on various social media platforms,” Kenya Railways said in a statement shared on X.
The corporation stressed that all legitimate vacancies are advertised exclusively on its official website, www.krc.co.ke, and through verified communication channels. It also reminded the public that it does not charge any fees at any stage of its recruitment process.

The fake advert claims that applications have been opened for hundreds of positions under a purported 2023–2027 Strategic Plan, allegedly aimed at strengthening the rail transport sector and boosting its contribution to national economic growth.
According to the poster, the supposed recruitment drive targets 473 vacancies across management, technical and support roles.
Positions listed include Legal Services Manager, Graduate Trainees, Registered Nurses, Locomotive Controllers, Drivers and Customer Officers, among others.
Kenya Railways distanced itself from the claims, saying the advert was misleading and designed to exploit job seekers.
The corporation further advised Kenyans to remain vigilant and report any suspicious recruitment notices to the relevant authorities.
The warning comes amid rising cases of online employment scams, with fraudsters increasingly using the names and logos of government agencies to lure unsuspecting applicants.
