KMTC Opens Applications for Health Insurance Management, Lowers Biology Grade to D

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has opened applications for its March 2026 intake, inviting KCSE holders who meet minimum requirements to apply via the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) portal.

The application window, which opened on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, will run until January 27, 2026.

In a move aimed at supporting the government’s Taifa Care social health insurance programme, KMTC has lowered the minimum grade requirement in Biology/Biological Sciences for the Certificate in Health Insurance Management programme from D+ to D (plain).

According to KUCCPS, the adjustment is designed to increase accessibility to training in health insurance management, which is crucial for the automation of health services and implementation of social health insurance under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

“The Certificate in Health Insurance Management programme is meant to prepare health workers to support the roll-out of the Social Health Insurance, a key initiative for improving healthcare delivery across Kenya,” KUCCPS said in a statement.

The two-year programme is offered at KMTC campuses in Bondo, Chwele, Mombasa, Nairobi, Nakuru, Nyamache, Nyeri, Rachuonyo, Rera, and Webuye, providing students with an opportunity to gain skills in health service management, automation, and insurance operations.

KUCCPS emphasized that lowering the minimum grade will not compromise training quality, as professional bodies ensure that KMTC maintains rigorous standards throughout its programmes.

The March 2026 intake includes 21,774 vacancies across 36 Diploma and Certificate programmes, offered in 98 KMTC campuses nationwide.

Candidates who sat KCSE in 2024 or earlier are eligible to apply now, while 2025 KCSE candidates will be considered in the September 2026 intake, once results are released.

Successful applicants are encouraged to log into the KUCCPS portal, select available KMTC programmes, and meet the minimum entry requirements.

The Certificate in Health Insurance Management offers a unique chance for young Kenyans to enter a growing sector of healthcare administration, aligned with national priorities for universal health coverage.
