NAIROBI, Kenya – Police in Lang’ata Sub-County are investigating the killing of a 70-year-old man who was allegedly stabbed to death by his son following a domestic dispute over the preparation of ugali.
The incident occurred in Mugumoini location, where Joseph Okello is said to have confronted his 20-year-old son, Peter Olwenye, over how he was preparing the staple meal.
According to witnesses, the disagreement began when the elderly man questioned his son’s decision to start cooking ugali using water that had not fully boiled.
What started as a verbal exchange quickly escalated into violence.
Mugumoini Senior Chief George Mukuria said the suspect allegedly attacked his father, inflicting multiple stab wounds to the back and neck, killing him on the spot.
“The suspect fled immediately after the incident. There are indications he may have been under the influence of drugs at the time,” Mukuria said.
Village elders and local youths later mobilised and tracked the suspect to a hideout in the Soweto area. He was apprehended and handed over to police officers from Lang’ata Police Station who were on patrol.
The body of the deceased was transferred to Nairobi Funeral Home, formerly City Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
Police have since launched investigations as the suspect remains in custody, awaiting further action.
