Locked in My House for 3 Months: Sifuna Opens Up on Post-Election Pain

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has offered a rare personal glimpse into the emotional toll of the 2022 elections, revealing that he suffered in silence following Raila Odinga’s loss.

In a deeply personal moment during a Citizen TV interview, Sifuna said he was so devastated by the outcome that he spent nearly three months in isolation, unable to face supporters or even celebrate his own victory.

“I had been elected for the first time in 2022 as the Senator, but because I was SG of ODM and my party leader had lost, I never got an opportunity to celebrate,” he recounted.

“I was locked up in my house for almost three months. I didn’t want to talk to anyone, I didn’t want anyone to call me because I had no answers for the people.”

Sifuna’s confession offers a rare human face to political loss, often masked by party statements and strategy briefings.

He said the experience left him emotionally drained, and he is determined never to go through it again.

His remarks come as he doubles down on efforts to keep ODM united and chart a path forward to 2027.

“I am trying to do my job in the Senate every day to be able to make a convincing argument that I should be given a second term as Senator,” he said.

Sifuna also ruled out working with President Ruto, declaring, “It would be impossible for me to work with William Ruto. I think it would be very foolish for anyone to join this government knowing full well that this government is going in two years.”
