NAIROBI, Kenya — Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Monday inspected a guard of honour at State House, Nairobi, before holding a private meeting with President William Ruto, marking a key moment in the strengthening of Kenya–Malaysia relations.
The two leaders are expected to witness the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering tourism, city cooperation, education, housing, and the digital economy as both nations seek to expand diplomatic and commercial ties.
Kenya has increasingly become a strategic partner for Malaysia in Africa.
In 2024, Kenya emerged as Malaysia’s third-largest trading partner on the continent, with bilateral trade reaching nearly USD 1.4 billion, driven by exports of tea, coffee, flowers, and growing investments in technology and manufacturing.
The Nairobi talks are aimed at unlocking new avenues for collaboration, including capacity building in science and technology and strengthened cooperation in urban development and affordable housing.
The visit underscores a joint commitment by Kuala Lumpur and Nairobi to broaden economic engagement and create new opportunities for trade, innovation, and people-to-people relations.
