NAIROBI, Kenya – Nyandarua Senator John Methu has called for President William Ruto’s resignation, claiming that the president has continuously violated the Kenyan constitution due to the increased abduction cases.
In a statement posted on his X account, Methu asserted that the president had “lost moral authority” and failed the integrity and leadership test following revelations by the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Justin Muturi, that implicated him in the whole saga.
@WilliamsRuto you’ve failed the leadership and integrity test. RESIGN!
Early this week, Muturi held a press conference where he narrated his son’s ordeal after he was abducted, to which he claimed that no definitive answers had been given to him to date.
According to Muturi, the National Intelligence Service (NIS) was behind the abduction of his son, Leslie Muturi, last year, and it took the intervention of President Ruto to have his son released.
Although Muturi’s public mentioning of Ruto’s name in connection with abductions is a defiant challenge to the president and is seen as being against the principle of collective responsibility in government, Senator Methu commended the CS for his courage in revealing these details.
He noted that these revelations had placed the weight of responsibility on the president’s shoulders.
“The disclosure puts the ball of abduction and the attendant ignominy squarely on the court of President William Ruto,” Methu stated.
The senator further criticized former interior CS Kithure Kindiki, PS Raymond Omollo, and the ATPU Director as they had ignored the situation.
He expressed his concerns that the president may allegedly be operating an abduction squad outside the constitutional parameters and questioned the fate of other abductees.
Methu noted that the nature of abduction symbolizes a disregard for the rule of law and constitutional order under the leadership of President Ruto.
