NAIROBI, Kenya – Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has adopted a young boy who witnessed his father’s brutal murder in Mathare Area 4 while being taken to school.
The boy, identified as Baby James, will now be part of Sonko’s family, the former governor announced on his social media platforms.
“I thank God for blessing me with another son. He will now be part of my family,” Sonko wrote, expressing his deep compassion for the boy, who has been left traumatized by the horrific incident.
I thank God for blessing me with another son. Baby James, the child whose father was stabbed to death by thugs as he helplessly watched on a monday morning in Mathare area 4 while taking him to school, will now be part of my family. My special compliments to Mr. Victor Owiti…
The tragedy that claimed Baby James’ father left the child in a vulnerable state, drawing widespread attention and sympathy.
Sonko praised the efforts of those who stepped in to support James in the aftermath of the incident.
He singled out Mathare Sub-County Children’s Officer Victor Owiti, Mathare Senior Chief Christine Dembah, and Utalii Assistant Chief Agness Nganga for their roles in caring for the boy during his most difficult moments.
Recognizing the immense trauma the child has endured, Sonko has pledged to provide professional therapy to help James heal.
In addition, he promised to ensure the boy’s education is not disrupted, offering him a stable and nurturing environment.
“May God comfort and protect him during this difficult period as he mourns his only parent,” Sonko said in a heartfelt statement.
This act of kindness is not new for Sonko.
In 2014, he made headlines when he adopted Baby Satrin Osinya and his elder brother, Gift, after their mother was killed in a church attack in Mombasa.
At the time, Satrin had a bullet lodged in his skull, and Sonko facilitated the surgery that saved the boy’s life.
Both brothers, now teenagers, continue to live under Sonko’s care.
Sonko’s latest gesture has once again highlighted the critical role of community support in the face of tragedy.
Baby James’ story serves as a stark reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the power of compassion to transform lives.
