Murkomen Hails Tiaty’s Turnaround as Residents Surrender Illegal Firearms

Date:

KOLOWA, Kenya – Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has praised residents of Tiaty Constituency for voluntarily surrendering illegal firearms, describing the shift as a major turning point for a region long troubled by banditry and insecurity.

Speaking in Kolowa during a women empowerment event, Murkomen said the disarmament effort has helped restore calm across Tiaty and neighbouring areas, allowing communities to resume normal economic and social activities without fear.

“We agreed that all those in possession of illegal firearms should surrender them. I commend the residents of Tiaty and the neighbouring areas who have complied. I am very pleased with this positive step,” he said.

The CS noted that previously hostile villages are now interacting more freely, with pastoralist communities beginning to rebuild relations strained by years of conflict.

With security stabilising, Murkomen announced that the government has begun rolling out targeted development interventions in Tiaty and the wider Kerio Valley, aimed at unlocking economic potential, improving infrastructure and creating new opportunities for local households.

“This peace has given us room to invest in long-term growth. Development can only thrive where there is stability,” he said.

Murkomen was accompanied by Baringo Senator Vincent Chemitei, Tiaty MP William Kamket, and Taveta MP John Bwire, among other leaders
