NAIROBI, KENYA – A 40-year-old man, Nicholas Okello, died after allegedly jumping from the fifth floor of an apartment building in Drive Inn, Nairobi, on Christmas Eve, in what police are treating as a suspected suicide.
Authorities say he climbed to the rooftop before leaping to his death.
The motive remains unclear, and the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Police across the country are investigating other deaths over the festive period, including suspected murder cases in Kirinyaga and Kiambu counties.
In Matandara village, Wanguru, Mwea, Kirinyaga County, 47-year-old Humphrey Mwai was found dead outside his home.
Officers reported a deep stab wound below the right ear. Investigators believe the victim may have been injured elsewhere, as there were no signs of a struggle at the scene.
The murder weapon has not been recovered, and the motive is yet to be established. His body was taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
In Kiganjo, Gatundu, Kiambu County, police discovered the body of Derrick Mwaura Githu, 24, lying on the roadside with visible bruises on his right ear and eye.
The body had been there for several hours before it was found. Authorities confirmed it has since been moved to the mortuary for examination.
Separately, officers responding to a case of malicious damage to property on December 24 were attacked.
Five suspects were arrested, and the injured officers were treated and discharged from hospital.
The festive period has raised concerns about public safety and security, with authorities urging members of the public to report any information that could assist investigations.
Police have stressed that all deaths are being thoroughly examined to establish circumstances and motives.
