Narok Protestors Injure 9 Police Officers After Losing 25 Sheep In Car Accident

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- At least 2,000 residents of Narok County participated in a major protest that left 9 police officers injured on Friday, police headquarters announced on Friday night.

A police officer’s hand was chopped off using a Maasai sword.

The protests occurred in Duka Moja trading centre- with the protestors barricading the Narok-Mai Mahiu highway.

The protest was triggered by a non-injury accident that had left 25 sheep killed on Thursday.

“The officers tried to calm the situation but the crowd turned more violent, prompting the officers to fire blanks and tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Two police officers were seriously injured and have since been airlifted to Nairobi for advanced treatment.

A police land cruiser belonging to Ntulele police station was damaged during the chaos.

Police say a firearm that had been stolen was recovered without a magazine.

Locals have been urged to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

Calm has since resumed and traffic flow restored.
