Gov’t Advertises NCIC Chairperson, Seven Member Positions

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — The government has formally declared vacancies for the positions of Chairperson and seven members of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), following the expiry of the current commissioners’ six-year terms.

In a public notice issued by the Selection Panel for the Selection of Nominees for Appointment to the NCIC, the vacancies arise from the end of the commissioners’ non-renewable terms, which lapse on November 17, 2025.

The NCIC is established under Section 15 of the National Cohesion and Integration Act and draws its mandate from Article 250 of the Constitution.

It is responsible for promoting national unity, preventing discrimination, and addressing ethnic and racial intolerance.

According to the notice, the Chairperson and members of the Commission serve a single six-year term and are not eligible for reappointment.

Applicants for the position of Chairperson must be Kenyan citizens, hold a university degree recognised in Kenya, and have at least 10 years’ experience in areas related to race, ethnic and human relations, public affairs, human rights, peace, or security.

Candidates must also meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity.

For the seven commissioner positions, applicants must similarly be Kenyan citizens with a recognised university degree and possess at least two years’ experience in relevant fields, including public affairs, peace-building, and human rights.

The Selection Panel outlined strict disqualification criteria under Section 18(2) of the NCIC Act.

Persons currently serving as State officers, actively involved in political parties, declared bankrupt, previously removed from public office for constitutional or legal violations, or found to have failed in statutory obligations such as tax compliance, are barred from appointment.

Members who have previously served on the Commission are also ineligible.

Salaries and benefits for the successful nominees will be determined by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.

The selection process will include public participation. The names of all applicants and shortlisted candidates will be published in the Kenya Gazette, two national newspapers, and on the Public Service Commission website.

Members of the public will be invited to submit credible information on the integrity of shortlisted candidates.

Shortlisted applicants will be required to present original identification documents, academic certificates, and valid clearance certificates from the Kenya Revenue Authority, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, Higher Education Loans Board, credit reference bureaus, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

Applications must be submitted manually in sealed envelopes addressed to the Chairperson of the Selection Panel at the Public Service Commission offices in Nairobi.

The deadline for applications is February 13, 2026, at 5.00 p.m. (EAT).
