NAIROBI, Kenya — Senior counsel Nelson Havi has pushed back at critics who have been sending him unsolicited messages about his decision to join the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), asserting that the public should respect his choice and focus on their own political journeys.
In a message posted on social media platform X, Havi said he would no longer tolerate “spam” in his WhatsApp direct messages from people expressing dissatisfaction with his political realignment.
“Please, do not spam my WhatsApp DM with advice or dissatisfaction with my choice to join DCP,” he wrote.
Havi questioned the timing of the criticism, noting that many detractors had been silent during the four months since he resigned from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
“Where have you been for the last 4 months since I resigned from UDA, to advise on what I should have done or not done?” he asked, challenging critics to reflect on their own political consistency.
In his post, Havi also dared those offering unsolicited opinions to test their own political credentials at the ballot box.
“Weka picha yako na jina yako kwa ballot if you think you are more knowledgeable on the matter,” he said, underlining his belief that political choices are ultimately subject to public mandate.
Havi’s remarks come days after he was formally welcomed into the DCP by party leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who described him as a highly experienced legal expert whose skills would strengthen the party’s work in legislation, representation and oversight.

Havi’s shift to the DCP follows his formal resignation from the ruling UDA party in late 2025, a decision he has explained was driven by his growing concerns about internal party democracy and the erosion of meaningful participation in party processes.
During media interviews, Havi said his eventual choice of the DCP was based on a belief that the party offered a more principled, institutional approach to politics and governance.
The former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president has also expressed interest in contesting the Westlands parliamentary seat in the 2027 general election under the DCP banner, a seat he previously contested in 2022.
