Police Link Machakos Bouncer’s Killing to Suspected Love Triangle

Date:

MACHAKOS, Kenya — Police have introduced a new angle in the investigation into the fatal shooting of a nightclub bouncer in Machakos, saying the incident is now being treated as a suspected love triangle gone wrong.

According to investigators, both the licensed firearm holder who shot the bouncer and a woman believed to be at the centre of the dispute are currently in police custody and have already been questioned as part of ongoing investigations.

The bouncer was shot three times and died on the spot following a confrontation outside the entertainment joint on Wednesday night.

Initial reports had pointed to a disagreement between the two men, but police now say evidence gathered so far suggests the dispute may have been triggered by a personal relationship involving the woman.

Police confirmed that the suspect is a licensed civilian firearm holder, whose weapon had previously been confiscated following earlier scuffles in Machakos before being returned under circumstances that are still under scrutiny.

Police have since recovered a Taurus pistol loaded with 12 rounds of 9mm alongside with magazine containing 16 rounds inside a white Toyota Land Cruiser.

A witness familiar with the incident described the deceased as friendly and outgoing, noting that he had worked at the club for about 10 years.

“He was a friendly person and very outgoing. He had been here for years and knew many people,” the witness said.

Investigators are also reviewing the suspect’s past conduct, including reports that he had been involved in at least two previous confrontations in the area prior to the fatal shooting.

The body of the bouncer was taken to a local mortuary pending a postmortem examination, as police continue to piece together the events leading up to the killing.

Authorities say further updates will be issued as investigations progress, even as the case raises renewed concerns over civilian firearm ownership, nightlife security, and how licensed weapons are handled following reported misconduct.
