ENBU, Kenya – Mount Kenya could be split into two blocs, Eastern and Western, if what Public Service and Human Capital Development and special programmes CS Geoffrey Ruku described as sustained political hostility continues.
Speaking at a church service at Full Gospel Church in Kangaru, Embu County, Ruku launched a sharp attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of fueling the division and spreading “systematic hatred” across Mt. Kenya East.
Ruku said leaders and residents from Mt. Kenya East are increasingly frustrated and ready to chart their own political path without interference from Mt. Kenya West leadership.
“Rigathi Gachagua, we are tired of you. You have been spreading systematic hatred in Mount Kenya East. Let the people of Mount Kenya do things our own way without your interference,” Ruku said.

The CS warned that continued attacks and exclusion could push the region toward a complete political split, arguing that Mt. Kenya East has for years supported leaders from Mt. Kenya West without seeing tangible benefits.
“It is time for the people of Mt. Kenya East to liberate ourselves. We cannot continue supporting leaders from Mt. Kenya West and get nothing in return,” he said. “If this continues, we are ready to have the mountain divided into two, Eastern and Western.”
Ruku further claimed that Mt. Kenya East has distinct languages, cultures, and customs that deserve recognition and respect, adding that the region already has its own political leadership.
Public CS Geoffrey Ruku laments that Kikuyu dominated counties are more developed than Mt Kenya East. “Kuna Jamii inatumia wengine vibaya.”
He dismissed Gachagua’s claim to the Mt. Kenya kingpin position, insisting that Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki is the legitimate leader of Mt. Kenya East.
“As people from Mt. Kenya East, we have a leader. Our kingpin is Professor Kithure Kindiki. Gachagua should respect that,” Ruku said.
The CS also urged Embu residents to remain united and continue supporting the Kenya Kwanza government, warning against calls to abandon the administration.
“Do not be misled to exit the government. Supporting Kenya Kwanza is the only way our region will continue to benefit,” he said.
