NAIROBI, Kenya — The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), led by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has accused the government of sabotaging its planned launch after the cancellation of its booking at Kasarani Sports Centre.
In a communiqué issued after the party’s inaugural National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, DCP said the management of the venue revoked their reservation at the “behest of the Ruto administration,” blocking the event initially scheduled for June 4 and later moved to June 3.
Communication and Resolution of DCP Party NEC meeting held today on 3rd June, 2025.
The NEC has now instructed Secretary General Hezron Obaga to secure an alternative private venue for the party’s official launch, promising to announce new details later this month.
The party, unveiled on May 17, 2025, is rapidly building its grassroots network.
The NEC authorized the recruitment of interim county coordinators to support operations at local levels and directed the establishment of county and constituency offices in areas where the party has yet to establish a presence.
DCP also warned against unsanctioned offices, stating that only party branches approved by the NEC will be recognized as legitimate.
Aspirants seeking DCP nominations in upcoming elections have been asked to liaise with headquarters and join newly sanctioned county aspirants’ forums to be coordinated by county leaders.
“The DCP party remains steady in its philosophy of listening to the people of the Republic of Kenya and on course for the liberation journey of our nation, whose soul has been tattered by irresponsible and deaf leadership,” the NEC stated.
