Ruku, Mbarire Raise Alarm Over Alleged Plot to Disrupt Mbeere North By-Elections

Date:

MBEERE NORTH, Kenya – Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire have raised concern over alleged plans to interfere with the Mbeere North by-elections.

Addressing journalists in Embu town, Ruku said the government has credible reports that opposition-linked groups have hired goons to disrupt the polls.

“We are aware that the opposition has organized groups to disrupt tomorrow’s by-elections in Mbeere North. We have reported the matter to the relevant authorities and urge residents to remain calm,” Ruku said.

He also condemned a recent attack on his personal assistant at ACK Church in Karangare, noting that investigations are underway.

Ruku further claimed that voter bribery is taking place in areas such as Kanyuambora and Ishiara, urging residents not to accept bribes.

On accusations of engaging in campaigns despite being a government official, Ruku defended himself, citing provisions in the 2025 Conflict of Interest Act that he says permit him to participate politically.

He assured voters that the government has put in place adequate security and logistical measures to guarantee a free, fair and credible election.

Governor Mbarire echoed Ruku’s concerns, stating that they have information on individuals allegedly deployed to disrupt the vote.

She said their names and phone numbers have been shared with security agencies and that investigations are ongoing.

“We know the targeted areas, Siakago Social Hall, Kirie, St. Peter’s Ishiara, Kanyuambora, Kavengero and others. We will continue monitoring and reporting to ensure the law takes its course,” she said.

Mbarire expressed confidence that the elections will proceed peacefully and that the UDA party will emerge victorious.
