NAIROBI, Kenya – President William Ruto has pledged to fully implement the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report after signing a landmark agreement with opposition leader Raila Odinga, signaling a rare show of unity between the two political rivals.
The deal, inked at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), brings together Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza and Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in a joint commitment to address Kenya’s pressing social, economic, and political challenges.
“We recognize that this moment is unlike any other. It is not enough to merely identify systemic and structural obstacles that have denied generations a fair chance. We must rise above political differences and embrace a higher vision of the Kenya we all deserve,” Ruto said during the signing ceremony.
The NADCO report outlines key policy measures aimed at lowering the cost of living, tackling youth unemployment, strengthening devolution, and fostering inclusivity in governance.
The agreement also commits both parties to upholding integrity in leadership, protecting the right to peaceful assembly, and addressing public debt through responsible borrowing and transparency.
The political truce marks a significant shift in Kenya’s often polarized political landscape.
Ruto acknowledged that while Kenya Kwanza and ODM may differ in their approaches, they share a common goal of building a united, secure, and prosperous nation.
“We undertake this commitment with the understanding that while our political parties may differ in strategy, we share a common goal — to build a government that ensures opportunity for all,” he said.
The deal also underscores a renewed push to combat corruption and uphold the rule of law, with Ruto vowing to eliminate wasteful public spending and ensure government accountability.
