UASIN GISHU, Kenya — President William Ruto on Saturday participated in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots elections, casting his vote at Koilel Primary School in Uasin Gishu County as the ruling party conducted polls across 20 counties.
The elections are aimed at choosing 20 officials at the polling-centre level, part of UDA’s drive to strengthen its party structures from the grassroots up.
“I commend all the candidates for stepping forward in numbers far beyond expectation to offer leadership at the grassroots,” President Ruto said.
He added that the high turnout reflected growing political engagement within the party and reinforced its organisational capacity.
The President linked the grassroots polls to the party’s broader political and economic vision, noting that the exercise supports the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which is anchored on inclusive growth and shared prosperity.
He also praised UDA members for turning out to vote, describing the exercise as a demonstration of democratic participation within the party.
“I appreciate members who have turned out to vote and exercise their democratic right of electing party officials of their choice,” he said.
Ruto reiterated that UDA remains committed to democratic governance and responsive leadership, arguing that strong party structures are essential for listening to citizens and delivering on their priorities.
The grassroots elections are expected to play a key role in shaping UDA’s internal leadership and mobilization strategy ahead of future political contests.
