High Ranking ATPU Officers Trained on Latest Tactics On Counter Terrorism

Date:

MOMBASA, Kenya — Senior officers from Kenya’s Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) have completed an advanced counter-terrorism leadership and investigations course, as the country steps up efforts to confront increasingly complex security threats.

The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mohamed Amin, on Friday presided over the official closing ceremony of the Counter-Terrorism Senior Investigating Officers Course, held in Mombasa.

The program brought together high-ranking ATPU officers from across the country for intensive training focused on leadership, intelligence-led investigations, and strategic decision-making.

Speaking at the ceremony, Amin congratulated the officers and urged them to apply the skills gained as they assume greater command and operational responsibilities within Kenya’s counter-terrorism framework.

He noted that the evolving nature of terrorism—marked by increased sophistication, cross-border networks, and technological adaptation—demands a counter-terrorism response that goes beyond tactical operations.

“As terrorism grows in complexity, Kenya’s response must also evolve,” Amin said. “Our success will depend not only on operational capability, but on professionalism, strategic leadership, and effective inter-agency coordination.”

Amin also acknowledged the British High Commission for its support in facilitating the course, describing the partnership as a key milestone in strengthening Kenya’s intelligence-driven and sophisticated security operations.
