Starehe Boys Issues Notice After KJSEA Results

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Starehe Boys’ Centre and School has issued a public notice to parents and guardians following growing inquiries over alleged admission messages sent to candidates after the release of the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results.

In a joint statement dated December 21, 2025, the Starehe Boys’ and Girls’ Centres said they had received numerous queries from parents of Grade 10 applicants who had been informed that their children had already been selected to join the schools.

The schools clarified that no admissions have been finalised, stressing that selection is conducted independently by each centre and follows a rigorous process guided primarily by need.

According to the statement, admission is based on four key criteria:

  • demonstrated financial need, assessed through mandatory application forms;
  • selection of Starehe as a preferred school in the appropriate category;
  • performance in the KJSEA examinations relative to the chosen pathway; and
  • regional balance to ensure representation from all counties.

The schools noted that need remains the primary basis for admission, with their charters requiring that at least 70 per cent of students come from needy backgrounds and are supported through sponsorship.

The two centres said they are working closely with the Ministry of Education to obtain official data for candidates who applied to join Starehe Boys’ and Girls’, enabling completion of the selection process in line with their mandate.

They added that the ministry had assured them the data would be provided expeditiously, as has been the case over decades, allowing early access to examination results to facilitate the schools’ detailed selection procedures.

Acknowledging anxiety among parents and candidates, the directors appealed for patience, saying successful applicants would be contacted directly once the process is completed in the coming days.

“Once the process is completed, the Centres will contact those that have been admitted to provide further guidance,” the statement read.

The notice was signed by Starehe Boys’ Centre Director Fredrick O.G. Okono and Starehe Girls’ Centre Director Sr Janas Noita.
