“A delegation comprising government officials and family members, led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, is leaving immediately for India to facilitate proper organisation in the repatriation of the remains of Raila Odinga,” the President stated.
The team is expected to return to Kenya later this week with the former Prime Minister’s remains, after which a state funeral will be held. A joint funeral committee, co-chaired by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, has been formed to coordinate all arrangements.
President Ruto described Raila as “a giant of democracy and one of Africa’s greatest sons,” declaring a seven-day period of national mourning during which flags will fly at half-mast across the country and at Kenyan missions abroad.
