KILIFI, Kenya — Police in Kilifi County are investigating the discovery of two unidentified bodies with bullet wounds found in a forest near Gede, close to the busy Kilifi–Malindi Highway on Saturday morning.
The lifeless bodies of two men were discovered by early-morning passersby in a thicket just metres from the roadside. Both victims had visible injuries and bloodstains on their heads, and at least one appeared to have been blindfolded, suggesting possible foul play and execution-style killing.
Local residents raised the alarm after stumbling upon the scene, alerting officers from the Malindi Police Station. Officers processed the scene before transferring the remains to the Malindi Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending post-mortem examinations to determine the precise causes of death.
Efforts to identify the victims are ongoing, with family members and residents gathering outside the mortuary to see if they can recognize the deceased. So far, police have been unable to confirm their identities.
The discovery has raised alarm among locals, who described the quiet coastal area as shaken by the grisly find. Coast regional civil society figures called on community members with missing relatives to check nearby morgues as a matter of urgency.
Authorities have scheduled autopsies to establish the exact cause of death, which is expected to reveal whether the bullet wounds were the result of deliberate targeting or linked to other criminal activity.
Police are urging anyone with information about the identities of the men or circumstances leading to their deaths to come forward as investigations continue.
Further details are awaited as detectives follow up on leads to determine who the victims are and what may have led to the apparent shootings.
