Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has called on Kenya’s political leaders to uphold tolerance, unity, and genuine multiparty democracy as the foundation for national progress.
Speaking during the funeral of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo in Lumakanda, Kakamega County, Kenyatta eulogized the late politician as a courageous, generous, and unifying leader.
“Jirongo respected multiparty democracy and believed in working with people from different political backgrounds. If we truly want to honor him, we must also respect that democratic space,” Kenyatta said, urging leaders to compete on ideas rather than division.

The former Head of State described Jirongo’s death as a loss to both the region and the nation, praising his belief in dialogue and cooperation across party lines.
The funeral ceremony was attended by senior leaders, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, governors, and members of parliament.
Jirongo was remembered not only as a skilled businessman but also as a steadfast advocate for peace, unity, and democratic ideals.
