NAIROBI, Kenya – East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Winnie Odinga has strongly criticised businessman Oketch Salah over claims he made regarding the final moments of her late father, veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga, describing the statements as false, dangerous and deeply troubling.
Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, Winnie said Salah’s assertion that he was present at the time of Odinga’s death was untrue and raised serious questions about his intentions.
“I have met Oketch Salah, but I’d like to believe nobody really knows him,” she said.
“A flat‑out lie that you were there at the time of my father’s death and you were not, and talking about things that did not occur, is quite dangerous and makes me question his intentions,” she added.
Winnie went further, suggesting that the nature of Salah’s remarks warranted urgent scrutiny.
“He should be rushed to either Mathare or the DCI with immediate effect,” she said, referring to Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

Her comments follow public statements by Salah in which he claimed he was with Odinga from the onset of his illness until his final moments, and that the two held extensive private conversations.
Salah said he spoke out to “state the truth” and denied seeking sympathy or political relevance.
However, Winnie dismissed those claims, saying the spreading of unverified accounts about her father’s death was inappropriate and disrespectful.
Winnie has previously maintained that the final moments she shared with her father were deeply personal and not for public discussion, warning against individuals using private family matters to advance personal or political agendas.
